I am now experiencing turn downs for my pain medications. I was floored. I asked my board certified pain management specialist what was going on and might this prompt special pharmacies for strictly pain management. Even doing it by the book us patients are put through the ringer. Expensive pee tests, monthly Dr appointments then chasing down our meds that make life just barely manageable. I am unaware of any efforts to improve our plight.
I am a pain patient and pain advocate. I dont have much clout- only a BIG MOUTH and BIG HEART :) Donna Ratcliff who lives in FLA understands this issue much better than me. Kindly reach her through her FB support page. Good luck !!!
Any controlled substance is a major problem. It doesn't matter how long you have been on a medicine. The pharmacy I have been going to consistently for 3 years, getting the same meds,in the same amount, written by the same Dr. that is good standing, never any sanctions against him...Reason stated by the same pharmacist that has been filling the same prescription at a major retail store/ pharmacy...say's can no longer fill because my Dr. in not in the same county. I turn to a non chain pharmacy and I am told I will have to pay extra $120 cash to get my same generic drugs because he would lose money. I was not going to go from pharmacy to pharmacy begging for medicine so I paid it . The prescriptions were filled. Every drug filled was a different generic! I have multiple serious allergies and adverse reactions to medications. I have been to the ER 2 times since I filled my prescriptions on the 14th of November. Insurance company is owned by Express Scripts, and Express scripts does not talk people and BTW neither does the Florida Medical Society! My doctor is going to write new prescriptions brand name only, medically necessary. I will have a problem getting them filled because the insurance company who is owned by express scripts says the it will get rejected it because you can not get your medication even 1 day before 30 days. That is a new change also! My options today are not take any of my medication because not sure which is the problem or continue to take the drugs that are making me deathly ill. This is a problem. I have tried to contact the corporate office of big chain store to get an exception since October 14. I keep being told the regional, district or someone else will call me back. That has not happened. I feel this whole situation is out of control and there is no accountability and no one willing to rectify the problem people are having getting access to their medications. This is peoples lives! No one cares! I am at a loss.
My pharmacist insists that he cannot fill my scripts until the 31st day. My Dr. told me too tell him that presciption are prescibed for 4 weeks that is 28 days. Most Prescriptions say 28 days so now I am so behind and in pain and can"t fill too the 30th because they were closed News Years day. How is that my fault???
Dawn yes, these are desperate times. I cant see any way around it but being VERY VOCAL, approaching politicians in our local communities, media and keeping the pressure on to take affirmative action. Sadly, this is a long and hard fight, but not unwinnable. At one time, women did not have the vote. At one time, not too long ago, schools were segregated. What is called for is fearlessness, grit and grace and a whole lot of Chutzpah ! right now. Hang in there. #GivePainAVoice. Keep the pressure on the powers that be. Change comes through pressure, public attention and legal precendent.
Well I have a big mouth and I've been calling everybody I can think of and posting everywhere I can. If they are going to keep me confined to my bed as long as my fingers can type and my mouth will make sound I will continue to speak out. I will continue to seek treatment. They will be as sick of me as I am sick. Ptsd is difficult as it is, it is fight or flight and they are clippings wings and trying to tear the bandages off my wounds and putting salt on it. I will fight to my last breath. With that last breath all I will be able to do then is "hope" That will accomplish all I will have capacity to do. This is especially hard because my brain is out of wack. You can just change somebody's chemical makeup and forget about them. The sad part is that even with the right meds I still have MDD and Panic Anxiety, Fibromyalgia, Add, Chronic Pain, Chronic fatigue. There is not cure! There are medicines that can alleviate some of the symptoms. I'm still depressed. I still will have depressive episodes. The medication allow me to come out of my room. I misses Thanksgiving and my birthday, forgot to pay my bills on the 1st. I can remember where I out anything. I having neurological symptoms, tremors, I've fallen 2 times just going to stand up when I got out of bed. I hit my head on the wall and was wedged between my bed and nightstand and couldn't get up. I go to the ER and they check everything out and say it's adverse reactions to new generics. Go home nothing they can to. Took a risk driving to my Dr in Lake Mary. On the advise od insurance company. My husband will be home this weekend so I won't be alone. I have 3 emotional support ferrets, 2 were rescues, but they are the real hero's. Sorry if I'm ranting. I hope we can work together. Tell me specifically who I need to talk to. I've emailed Rubio, Buchanan, Bonde. The President. Menanie at FL Dept of health in Tallahassee. I filed a complaint with Food and Drug Administration. I should read these before I post but I hope it makes sense. I know we all have different medical problems. I want to help make this right. I could probably get my medications easier from drug dealers. They seem to be the only ones able to get drugs. I'm really not going to do that but hoe do they get it and we don't?
Never thought Id see this day that WE the legitimate patients would be treated with so little respect and that we all must be junkies.
I could scream i voted for that b Pam Bondi. She is so behind all of these
new drug laws. We get put through ringers, sign contracts, obey to the letter, and BOOM the pharmacists don't even look on their shelves. Do they think we're stupid too? But we get the same answer: Nope we don't have any in stock. Try back again on Tuesday or Thursday.
I have been very fortunate in that my local grocery chain pharmacy fills my Rx so far without a problem. But its also hard finding a generic with enough active ingredients, so you settle for what you can get. I'd give anything to be my old self and id give anything to pass this pain onto one of the friggin sanctimonious pharmacists for just one hour, just one hour.
One thing I forgot. The pain industry needs to have specialized pharmacies that are for pain meds only. The market sure is large enough, and of course the only prescribers could be certified pain management specialists, and its that group that should be carefully screened. I have cardiac problems, had a quadruple bypass and when my heart goes bonkers my cardiologist wants me to have a low dose of Lorazepam to stop me from panicking. Ha what a joke, he won't write a script, my primary won't write one so I have to go to a psychiatrist to get a lousy 30 day Rx for lorazepam. What a joke
Kingster, I too have the same exact cardiac situation. I too had a
4X cardiac bypass surgery. Cardiologist wants me to have Ativan for the times my uncontrolled by soars into the 200s' systolic. The catch is, he won't give me an Rx, my primary won't write one, so I too have to see a psychiatrist once every 3 months to get an Rx for 30 pills. Those I haven't had too much problem getting. I go to a licensed pain management doctor, abide by the rigid tests and rules, and since they recently changed the classification of hydrocodone the pharmacists say they either have NONE, come back tuesday, or thursday etc. Then on the occasions they are in stock, they doubled the price of the drugs. They have us all by the short hairs. I regret voting for that holier than though Pam Bondi. The things I wish on her and her pals I can't put in writing. BUT we would probably see some changes in pain management. The next thing to happen was the urine testing company sent all of 2013's copay bills in one envelope, then all of 2014's copays came next, then my most recent bill for 2015 for ONE lousy screening was over $800. Are they nuts. I've been on hydrocodone for years now due to a variety of problems. I wouldn't know how to quit them without putting my life in danger. Is Pam Bondi going to pick up the tab for a place to rehab and get off these pills if she wants to stop the flow of them? I think we would all gladly quit this junk if the state picks up the tab to get us healthy and out of pain. Can you imagine if we all quit, the drug companies would go ape shit with all the revenues they'd lose.
Ive been lucky that my grocery store pharmacy has been filling my Rx without faces or looks of incrimination, but with all the flack on the news lately, I don't know what I'll be facing in the next few days when its time to refill again. As a stop gap I will be researching how to safely quit these damn pain meds.
#GivePainAVoice ~ thanks for sharing. These are hard issues that need advocacy for any hope of reform. Keep up the fight ! and dont lose hope.
My husband and I are fixing to retire in fort Meyers Florida but after reading about all the problems people are having filling the pain meds I'm stunned. I'm in my fifties and have been on pain meds since 2001 after a sever car wreck and total changed my life . I had six screws and a cage put in my lower my back and now they are telling me a need another operation on my upper spine . Without my meds I might as well dig my on grave and throw myself in it . I'm so stunted at what I have found out . There has to be something we could to change things . My if we could get people to sign a petition, just something and let our government officials know how this is hurting people that really need their meds . I might have to rethink and retire somewhere beside Florida.
yes, FLA is the WORST for pain patients, Sadly. You may want to investigate other options. Petitions have been signed and rallies done, Hasn't done much, so far . Hardship continues for those in Pain.
I have a terminal spinal cord disease and have neither the physical strength nor energy to schlepp from pharmacy to pharmacy, much less to be treated like a criminal and to make matters worse, my husband has a broken neck with a huge fusion than now has arthritis growing thru it: and we can't get our prescriptions filled. What are we supposed to do?
mary, Im so sorry for your horrible treatment and stress. WESH NEWS ( .com) I think has been going to pain patients homes and putting their stories on the news. That should SHAME government bodies to take action ! Please contact the reporters there. You can search on line for videos and articles they have published on chronic pain and RX denials. GOOD LUCK !
